Life Legacy

MARLBOROUGH - Anita L. (Speers) Montoya, 53, of Marlborough died at home Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010, after a long illness. She was the wife of Roy Y. Montoya for the past 28 years. Born in Boston and raised in Brighton, she was the beloved daughter of Winifred L. Speers-O’Gorman of Las Vegas and the late Arnold L. Speers. A graduate of Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall School in Waltham, Anita was a manager at Hampton Inn in Natick for six years before retiring due to illness. She had previously worked in the hospitality field at various hotels, including the Radisson in Marlborough and the Sheraton in Framingham. A professional horse trainer and groomer working at Rockingham Park, Suffolk Downs and Penn National Race Track, she trained her dad’s horse, “Johnonefour” that was raced by her husband, Roy, “Newcommon” and many others over the years. Anita loved gardening, knitting, bingo, and jigsaw puzzles. She was hard working and a perfectionist, strong willed and opinionated, and was forever helping others.
Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, Roy V. Montoya of Putnam, Conn. and Dustin L. Montoya of Marlborough; a stepdaughter, Brittany K. Montoya of Baltimore; a sister, Evelyn Lally and her husband, Jim, of Chelmsford; a grandson, Elias Montoya of Baltimore; a nephew, Robert Lally of Chelmsford; and two cousins, Amy and Carrie.
